Freedom Fry Cooks Up an International Version Of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

How about a bowl of Tomatillo soup along with with a croissant, and some Nirvana on the side? Freedom Fry served up something like that with their cover to Nirvana’s “Smell’s Like Teen Spirit.” It’s an upbeat version with plenty of international flavor; there’s the Latin beat, and the occasional French lyrics thrown in the in the mix. The spicy flavor is stirred up with Marie Seyrat taking Kurt’s lead role as vocalist. The Vihuela interpretation of the original chords revamps the entire experience; in summary, there’s nothing grungy about this version. Want seconds? Born and raised in the birthplace of Funk, and arguably the birthplace of Rock n’ Roll, music is in my veins. If names like Bootsy Collins, and the Ohio Players ring a bell, then you know where I come from. As a musician and poet myself, I have an appreciation for art that hasn’t been inundated by the agendas of major labels and networks.
