Newcomers The Friends Make More than Just “Sh**** Elevator Music”


The sound quality is horrible, the singing has a happy hour, karaoke appeal to it, but there’s something charming about The Friend’s debut EP (Self-Titled). It’s a jazzy, garage-rock meet and greet. Think it’s not possible to fuse the two?

Check out the single “hey,hey,hey,” which is a cover of Modern English’s “I Melt With You.” The classic rock track is stripped down to a rustic, dusty interpretation of the original version. Then the song suddenly transitions into something else altogether when soulful chords get thrown in the mix. This is an EP that deserves a listen, it’s more than just “shitty elevator music.” Stream the EP here:
