We need to catch our breath – Chicago has been churning out dope emcee after dope emcee. When you think of the Chicago hip-hop scene names come to mind like Kanye West, Chance The Rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Twista and many more but there’s a newcomer who’s stomping on the same skill level as the aforementioned. He goes by Amias Amir. And he really is that good.
Kheon Townsen, known as Amias Amir, was born in Freeport, Illinois, but the southside of Chicago raised him into the lyricist he is today. He’s only 24 and has already found a way to garner some local buzz, once being signed to Lupe Fiasco’s label, 1st&15th. Now currently as an independent artist, he’s on his way to taking hip-hop by storm.
These days it seems like the rap game is filled with many ‘rappers’ toting weak bars, generic flows, and typical beats, this is why you must take a listen to Amias Amir. He’ll give you that breath of fresh air – the freshness you need when you want real lyrics, high energy, and flow that’s as good as the 90s’ classics but on top of beats that align with the feel of today. His music is real and relatable. There are no empty lines. Each verse he spits you’re forced to feel because it’s coming from a place of reality. He takes real-life occurrences and twists them into catchy songs that’ll leave you in thought and nodding your head at the same time.
His influences range from hip-hop legends like Notorious Big, Jay Z, Tupac, Dr.Dre, Method Man and Ice Cube to new school artists like J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Drake, Chris Brown, and Big Sean. Music runs in his family and we’d be irresponsible to leave out another major influence in his life, Khiry Irving, his brother, who’s also an emcee and helped him sharpen his skills.
Currently, Amias Amir is working on a campaign/project called #ProjectWhoAmI. It’s a project focused on helping people figure out who they are, especially if they need to hit a reset button on life – this project will help them get through. Real artists want to make an impact on their fans’ lives and make a difference through their music. Amias Amir has our stamp of approval. He’s real in a world full of copies. We expect nothing but big things from him in the near future.
