Apple Won’t Be Buying Tidal, Confirms Jimmy Iovine

3views

Apple was looking to acquire Jay-Z’s streaming service Tidal – at least, those were the rumors spreading around earlier this summer. The Wall Street Journal claimed that both Apple and Tidal were having conversations about the possibility of a merger between the two companies. At the time, this was all just speculation and nobody was confirming this to be true or false. That didn’t stop Kanye West from briefly mentioning the two streaming services in frustration on Twitter.

But were there really discussions of Apple Music acquiring Tidal? According to Apple Music executive Jimmy Iovine, the answer is no. Iovine told BuzzFeed that the rumors were false and nothing more. “We’re really running our own race,” he said. “We’re not looking to acquire any streaming services.”

The idea of a merger between the two did sound like an exciting prospect. Also considering how Tidal is doing financially, it certainly could have been a great boost for the streaming service. Are you bummed? Share your thoughts down below and let us know what you think.
