Apple Won’t Be Buying Tidal – But Is Spotify Acquiring Soundcloud?

23views

Apparently so. Spotify is currently in serious negotiations to acquire one of their rival streaming services – Soundcloud. This is happening only a few months after Soundcloud Go – the paid subscription option – was launched. Though it doesn’t look like very many people have subscribed to that, so maybe this acquisition will help a great deal.

There are roughly over 170 million people using Soundcloud (for free). And Spotify is ahead of everybody in the music streaming gig, with 40 million paying subscribers. Apple Music has only 17 million and Tidal has even less.

But as of right now, no one from Spotify has come forward to provide any comments on this report. Seems like emerging music artists could really benefit from this. They could now have an easier way of getting onto the platform.
