No More Ticket Bots – Music Fans Rejoice
Buying concert tickets online has gotten a whole heck of a lot easier this week. President Barack Obama has just signed legislation that will do away with computer programs selling event tickets online. Now, you can get the tickets straight from the source instead of these ticket bots. This new bill is known as the Better Online Ticket Sales Act of 2016, (BOTS), and was passed by the Senate back in November. But this week, the House has just passed the bill. It’s officially illegal.
Ticket bots are “an unfair and deceptive practice,” according to the bill, and millions of people will no doubt agree. No more having to pay extra when purchasing from resellers. This, of course, is great news for those who attend live concerts frequently. In addition, this bill will make it illegal to resell tickets originally purchased by a ticket bot.
“This bill prohibits the circumvention of a security measure, access control system, or other technological measure on an Internet website or online service of a ticket issuer that is used to enforce posted event ticket purchasing limits or to maintain the integrity of posted online ticket purchasing order rules for a public event with an attendance capacity exceeding 200 persons.”
