Now that Broken Social Scene have reunited, they’re working on a new album. The Canadian indie rock band got back together this summer and promised a new project. In a recent interview, band member Kevin Drew reveals when the project could be released.
“We have to finish it, obviously, just a small thing called finishing… I think that we’re thinking summer [release],” Drew told George Stroumboulopoulos on The Strombo Show.
“The whole reason we got back together was after the shootings in Paris,” he added. “Everyone sort of got on the phone within the small tribe of us and said, I want to play some shows. It is interesting because someone told me that ATCQ (A Tribe Called Quest), that was sort of their story too. I think that just affected a lot of people because it was so close to home. So close to home.”
This will be Broken Social Scene’s first album since 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record.
“I know that I am an aging rocker — I truly think that it is up to us and it has always been up to us,” Drew said. “I just think that anytime that you have a chance to connect with large crowds, it is a gift. It is incredibly fun and I think that we came together to talk about where we are at in each other’s lives and where we are at in this world we are living in now.”
